The 2009 UBBC Head Race will be held on Saturday 28th of November and will consist of three racing divisions.

Insurance

The University of Bristol Head Race will be endorsed by BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport), which entails the provision of Third Party Public Liability and Event Insurance. This constitutes a major difference from previous years where competitors have had to be covered solely by their Club Insurance.

Divisions 1 and 3

Open to all university crews and invited clubs. Categories available to competitors will be similar to those at the BUCS events in February and May. Namely they are:

8o - Championship/Intermediate
4+ - Championship/Intermediate
4- - Championship
2x/2- - Championship
1x - Championship

PLEASE NOTE - There is no Intermediate 2x or 2- event this year

Prizes will be awarded to the fastest crew of the day in each category provided there are more than three entries.

PLEASE NOTE - Crews may now be entered into the Intermediate category regardless of whether there is a corresponding crew entered in the Championship division or not. If there are less than 3 crews in a category then a crew may be merged with a higher category. If a crew does not want to be moved up to a higher category under any circumstances please let the organisers know when making the entry.

It is asked that crews in Division 1 and 3 have experienced coxes because there is a tight bend with a bridge to navigate on the Long Course which has been the site of incidents in previous years.

Multiple entries ARE allowed in events where there is only a Championship category, i.e. 1x, 2x, 2-, 4-.

Entry Fee will be £7 per seat for these two divisions.

Division 2

This year, Division 2 will be a Beginner only division and will therefore run Beginner VIII and IV events.

PLEASE NOTE - There is no 2x or 1x in Division 2. There is no longer a 'Fresher' category in this Division.

BEGINNER VIII and IV

Open solely to members of the university. Anyone with ARA Novice status and having started rowing at the start of the academic year is eligible.

Please ensure coxswains are capable of marshalling and steering relatively competently. Clearly since this is a beginner event, new coxswains are expected to still be on a very steep learning curve, but every club is responsible for ensuring that their crews are of a sufficient level so as not to cause danger to themselves or other crews racing. There are no rules limiting the experience of coxswains in division 2.

Prizes will be awarded for the winner of each category.

Universities may enter boats into one or both categories. The events available in Division 2 are:

8o - Beginner
4+ - Beginner

Entry Fee will be £5 per seat for this division.

PLEASE NOTE - Competitors racing in Division 2 are not allowed to enter the Championship or Intermediate events in Divisions 1 and 3

Other Important Information

All competitors who are members of universities are asked to bring their student cards with them when collecting numbers to ensure they are university affiliated. A representative of each crew should bring the cards for every member of that crew.

PLEASE REMIND ALL COMPETITORS TO BRING STUDENT CARDS WITH THEM TO THE RACE
